Lady Gaga looked amazing at the Oscars in an Alexander McQueen gown and some very Gaga gloves, but it was the massive diamond around our neck that really caught our attention – and rightly so, since it turns out the necklace is a precious Tiffany one that was once worn by Audrey Hepburn.
Recognise it? The yellow diamond, which is 128.54 carats and valued at £23 million, was worn by the iconic actress in the film Breakfast At Tiffany’s back in 1961.
Nowadays it looks slightly different, as it’s been altered for a more modern feel. But there’s no changing that price tag.
This is the first time the diamond has ever been on a red carpet.
Reed Krakoff, Tiffany & Co. Chief Artistic Officer, said: “Lady Gaga is the ultimate creator, innovator and rule breaker, and I’m thrilled that she will be wearing the legendary Tiffany Diamond on the awards show red carpet for the first time since it was discovered 141 years ago.”
Lady Gaga might have lost out on the Best Actress Oscar to Olivia Colman, but she definitely won with her emotional performance of Shallow alongside A Star Is Born co-star Bradley Cooper.
Plus, she wore that diamond. So all good.
If you’ll excuse me, I’m just off to think about the fact that that necklace costs more than I’ll make in my entire lifetime.
