Rami Malek’s wonky tie is straightened by Lady Gaga during Oscars ceremony

He took home the Best Actor prize for his portrayal as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody at the 91st Academy Awards on Sunday.

And Rami Malek was saved by Lady Gaga and fellow attendees as they attempted to straighten his wonky bow tie throughout the ceremony.

The screen star, 37, narrowly avoided a fashion slip-up during the glitzy event as Born This Way hitmaker Gaga, 32, stepped up to fix his statement piece before he hit the stage to collect his prestigious gong.

Viewers took to Twitter in their droves as they applauded the singer, who won Best Original Song for A Star Is Born’s Shallow, for her ‘sweet’ gesture.

One fan penned: ‘Lady Gaga fixing Rami Malek’s bow tie and giving him a thumbs up afterwards is all you need to see today. #Oscars.’

Another wrote: ‘tell me lady gaga fixing rami malek’s bow tie and then giving him a thumbs up isn’t the cutest and sweetest thing ever’.

‘Congratulations….. also applause for everyone who tried to straighten your bow tie @ItsRamiMalek #Oscars #RamiMalek’, a third penned.

While a series of attendees tried to rescue the Battleship star from a wardrobe malfunction, viewers noticed that his tie was still wonky when he collected his prize.

An eagle-eyed fan wrote: ‘Lol they all tried to correct Rami Malek’s tie but it still ended up crooked #Oscars.’

A third tweeted: ‘That tie was bugging me also…good job Gaga! #RamiMalek #Oscar2019’.

Following his triumph, Rami was treated by medics after he fell off the stage at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

The actor was surrounded by people at the time of the accident, with pictures showing crew and fellow guests rushing to to assist him after it happened.

Rami seemed stunned in the wake of the incident, as medical professionals treated him in the front row of the venue.

The Papillon star did not suffer any serious injuries in the incident, according to officials, the Los Angeles Times reported.

He looked shocked as he tumbled from the stage into the audience area after the ceremony concluded, but managed to keep his newly-received Oscar aloft.

Paramedics were then called to treat the actor, moving him into a chair in the front row of the theatre, before taking him to a private area backstage.

The mishap meant the star almost missed out on posing for the traditional acting awards photo with Best Actress winner Olivia Colman, and Supporting Actor and Actress recipients Mahershala Ali and Regina King, before dashing in to take his place in front of the cameras.

Rami later appeared in the press room to talk about the win, and showing no obvious sign of injury.

He made no mention of the fall, telling reporters of his Oscar: ‘The fact that I have this in my hand right now is beyond my expectation that myself or perhaps my family ever could have had.’

It was otherwise a career evening for the actor, who won the Best Actor Oscar for playing Queen frontman Freddie between the years of 1970 and 1985.
